University of California-Irvine, Reines Hall

Reines Hall at the University of California-Irvine houses the college's Chemistry and Physics Departments. These world-renowned departments are known for their research and experiments, including creating new molecules used in pharmaceutical products and analyzing the universe's composition. The six-story concrete structure, built in 1990, houses numerous chemistry and physics laboratories as well as offices.

In July 2001, a student's scientific experiment went awry, causing a blast that ripped through two of the chemistry laboratories on the second floor. Interior finishes in the labs included premium oak cabinets with epoxy counter-tops that resist chemical spills. Also, numerous fume hoods, along with extensive and specialized plumbing, HVAC and electrical systems are an integral part of the building.

YOUNG & Associates was hired to provide consulting and estimating services on the scope of the project.
